Games to Upgrade For – 2022 Edition

It has become a yearly tradition for me to list the games to upgrade for, and 2022 will be no different! So, in case you have not been following what games are on the horizon, this post is for you! Here are the PC games to upgrade for in 2022 (in no particular order).

Elden Ring

I am very confident that I will not be alone in having this title on my list. Elden Ring is by far one of FromSoftware’s most anticipated game in a while. Even more so considering it has been created in collaboration with George R.R. Martin. The game looks to follow a similar vein to past FromSoftware titles, featuring gorgeous landscapes, giant bosses and a plethora of customisation options. Gameplay will also borrow elements from the Dark Souls series, Bloodbourne as well as Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, meaning there will be a lot of ways to approach combat with is super exciting.

Elden Ring releases on February 25, 2022.

Starfield

That’s right, it’s apparently coming! Betheda’s last game release, believe it or not, was back in 2011 with Skyrim (as long as you don’t count the constant re-releases). So, you bet your bottom dollar this is a game many have their eyes on. We still know very little about Starfield despite it releasing in less than a year, but what we do know is it basically looks like Skyrim in space, which sounds pretty dang good to me. Set outside of the solar system in around 2310, you play as a character who is am member of Constellation, a faction of space explorers. If Bethesda’s past games are anything to go from, this will be quite the big boy and no doubt, an extensive modding community will spring up pretty fast too.

Starfield releases on November 11, 2022.

Gotham Knights

I mean, who doesn’t love Batman? Gotham Knights was due to release originally in 2021, but like many games got pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This game is being created by WB Games Montreal, the same group who made Arkham City: Origins, however it is not set in the same Arkham universe. In this world, Batman is dead, and it is now up to his friends: Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin and Red Hood, to pick up where Batman left off. It also features a two player cooperate mode, which is pretty cool. This game just looks like a TON of fun and any excuse to return to Gotham City, I will take!

Gotham Knights releases sometime in 2022.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is the next instalment in the Arkhamverse, featuring 4 playable characters: Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn and King Shark. The game is set after the events of Batman: Arkham Knight, where the newly established Suicide Squad find that the Justice League have been brainwashed and now it’s up to the squad of villains to save the day.

Hogwarts Legacy

To begin, I just wanted to state that I do not agree with many of the statements (you know which ones) made by the original writer of the Harry Potter books and it’s honestly a shame she made a whole lot of her fans feel so alienated by her comments. That being said, Hogwarts is a very special place to a lot of us who grew up with these stories, and I’ll be damned if I let her take that from us.

So, with that Hogwarts Legacy is still on my list. I have wanted a Harry Potter open world RPG game for a very long time and I was so excited upon first hearing whisperings about this game. The game is set in the 1800s well before Harry and his friends were even alive and will following the player made student as they start their schooling life at Hogwarts. This just sounds like everything I have even hoped for and I really hope it is as great as it seems!

Redfall

If you ever wanted to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer growing up, this is the game for you. Arkane Studio’s Redfall is a first-person shooter featuring 4 playable characters with various backgrounds and special abilities that they use to beat up vampires. The game also features a cooperate multiplayer mode, if you have friends… but if not, it’s ok, you can just play alone too. If you love games like Back 4 Blood or the COD Zombies modes, this should certainly be on your list too.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: GOLLUM

Look, I will admit when this game was first announced, I wasn’t sure why it existed. Nobody was really asking for this as far as I know. But any opportunity to play a new Lord of the Rings game, I will take. The game is set to follow the titular Gollum, and his journey before the events of the novels and films. It also looks like it has a strong emphasis on stealth mechanics.

The Callisto Protocol

This game was going on the list the SECOND I saw the trailer for it. The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game. Set far in the future, the game takes place in a prison colony on Jupiter’s moon Callisto where your character finds themselves in the middle of an alien invasion. This looks like it will be the perfect game for Halloween 2022, so gets your pants nice and dry cos this game might cause you to wet them.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl

After years stuck in development hell, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is finally on the horizon. First announced back in 2010, the fourth game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe (yeah, I’m not sure about those numbers either), looks like it is going to pack a punch on your PC. This first person post-apocalyptic action game finds you facing off against dangerous mutants and deadly anomalies, as well as needing to keep tabs on things like food and drink.

Saints Row

The original Saints Row games were like GTA on steroids, which is what made them honestly both mad and fun. It’s been a long while since the last Saints Row title, so hearing a new one was on the way was pretty exciting for me. The newest title in the series is due to be a full reboot, moving to an entirely new city following all new gangs. Once again, you can fully customize your character and there is also an option for co-op game play again like the older ones did. If the scale of the old maps were anything to judge it on, this could be one whopper of a game!

Saints Row releases on August 23, 2022.

 Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 I think currently holds the record of making it on every single Games to Upgrade for post I’ve ever done! As I mentioned in the past, Dying Light 2 is a first person zombie survival game set 20 years after the original Dying Light. The game was originally going to release in first 2019, then 2021 and now finally it is going to drop on 2022… hopefully! We need our serving of zombie slaying goodness please Techland, don’t make us wait any longer!

Dying Light 2 releases on February 4, 2022… hopefully.
